Potter-Dix struggles against Sioux Co. win

In their first year playing six-man football, the Potter-Dix Coyotes suffered another loss, 54-6, last week when they hosted the Sioux County Warriors on Friday, Sept. 16.

The Coyotes struggled from the very beginning, allowing their opponents 20 in the first quarter, but they were able to add six to the scoreboard themselves.

In the second the Warriors ran away with an additional 28 on the board and finished that off with another six following halftime – all unanswered.

Sioux County’s speed challenged the younger Coyotes, according to coach Dale Frerichs.

“We will continue to focus on our fundamentals and discipline,” he said. “Although the score may not reflect it, we did play better fundamentally. Their team speed is what gave us the most problems.”

Coach Frerichs pointed out that Tyrus Gawith, Dylan Nielson and Connor Williams all played exceptionally well against the Sioux County boys.

Gawith, who scored the sole touchdown, totaled 90 yards for the night with 41 rushing yards and 49 receiving. He racked up five solo tackles and assisted with three more.

Nielson completed five passes for 75 yards for the Coyotes, and rushed for seven more. He was credited with six tackles and three assists.

Freshman Terell Gray assisted with two tackles, carried for 11 and received for a total of 26 yards while classmate JT Herboldsheimer rushed for six, made two tackles and assisted with a third.

Williams, Michael Steele and Travis Garlach each contributed one solo tackle with seven assists between them.

Following that loss, the Coyotes traveled to Minatare, who caught their first win of the season, 83-45, against the Banner County Wildcats on Sept. 16.
