Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
After the first successful year of Apply2College, seniors at Kimball High School will once again have the opportunity to participate in the college preparation process.
According to high school guidance counselor Chauncey Pedersen, the program began through the EducationQuest Foundation, which focuses on financial aid, preparation tips and colleges in Nebraska.
Kimball seniors will join Nebraska students from more than 200 schools in taking the first critical college prep step with the application process on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when they will receive hands-on guidance will applications from school staff and community volunteers.
“Completing a college application can be overwhelming for many students, especially those from families unfamiliar with the process,” Pedersen said. “This event will help reduce college application barriers students face and should increase the number of seniors who go on to pursue higher education.”
The event covers all types of schools, including trade schools, two-year and four-year colleges, Pedersen said.
The Apply2College Campaign is part of the American College Application Campaign sponsored by the American Council on Education. All states are now participating in the annual program.
Though the EducationQuest Foundation does include financial aid guidance, this event will not cover that aspect, but students and families will receive information about scholarships, grants and loans later that same day.
“We are having a financial aid night here at the high school for seniors and their parents on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m.,” Pedersen concluded. “EducationQuest will be presenting that via the distance learning system, being broadcasted from Kearney.”
