Morris Mathews, 71, of Gering, died Tuesday, November 01, 2016 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jeremy Skaggs officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at 4pm at Hull Cemetery in Banner County. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Morris’s honor be made in care of the family. Morris was born in Scottsbluff to Thelbert and Leoma (Warner) Mathews. He attended schools in Banner County. He married Maxine Mount in Fort Morgan, CO on Jan 5, 1962.
Morris worked on the family ranch until he started his own trucking business in the early 70’s. Trucking was Morris’ passion especially with his son, Wes. They owned their own business for 20 years hauling cattle and hay. Also traveling over the road with his wife Maxine. Morris was involved in church where he was a trustee and took special attention to the lawn upkeep on a daily basis. After retiring from trucking, he worked for Panhandle COOP, the Monument Mall and A&L Furniture Store.
Morris loved life, especially spending time with his family, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Morris is survived by his wife Maxine Mathews of Gering; children Kelly (Gary) Shepherd of Yuma, CO, Wes (Janelle) Mathews of Gering, and Maronna Mathews of Conrad, AR; brother Neal (Carole) Mathews of TX; sisters Marian (Bill) Neal of Gering and Linda Welch of Gering; and numerous grandkids and great grandkids.
His parents; brother Carroll Mathews of Harrisburg, NE; brother-in-law Ed Welch; and sister-in-law Geneva Mathews preceded him in death.
