Barry James Spargo passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Nov. 16, 2016.
Barry was born in Franklin to Jim and Kay Spargo on Sept. 27, 1962. A graduate of Kimball County High School, he received his BA from the University of Nebraska and his MS and PhD degrees from the University of California, Davis. He married Alexandra McPherron of Davis, Calif. In 1991.
Barry served more than 25 years at the Naval Research Laboratory, US Navy, Washington DC. He served his country in many capacities and was especially proud of his leadership in creating opportunities for his peer scientists and engineers to grow. At the time of his death, Barry was a member of the Senior Executive Service and was serving as Superintendent of the Chemistry Division, NRL. Barry will be greatly missed by his wife, Alexandra, his parents, his brother Mark and sister Jodi, his extended family, coworkers and many friends.
