Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball senior Eric Escajeda was the Longhorn's only medal winner at the Chase County Invitational Wrestling Tournament held this past Saturday in Imperial. Escajeda brought home the third place medal wrestling at 285 winning 3 matches and losing twice. Kimball's big guy suffered losses by fall to Freeze of Bridgeport and Louder of Hershey and registered wins over Hodges of Hitchcock County 5-0, pinned Nicholson of Hershey in 4:40, and won by forfeit over Shoemaker of Sidney.
Kimball finished 9th in the tough field of 15 schools with 47 points. Gothenburg won the team title with 216 points with Bridgeport the runner-up team with 177 edging out the host school who finished with 174.
Kimball coach Wade Brashear said, "The Chase County wrestling tournament turned out to be a tough one for us. We finished with only one top four wrestler in Escajeda. Although all of our other wrestlers finished with wins on the day, no one was able to make the medal rounds. As a team, we need to win our "heart-break" matches, those crucial matches that set us into the placing matches. With a few weeks left until districts we will look to work hard and prepare ourselves to win those matches."
Jordan Cluff at 106 had a good day on the mats by winning 4 of his 6 matches and had 4 pins, including an :11 second fall. Trevor Ryschon at 120 received a by and lost twice. Garrett Pedersen at 126 was 2-2 on the day. Jaden Mohr at 132 was 1-2. Logan Stahla at 138 drew a bye, had 1 win and 2 losses. Isaak Glanz at 170 was 1-4. Stephen Bateman 182 had a bye, 1 win and 3 losses.
Kimball is in action at the Lingle Tournament this weekend.
