Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
A couple of long road trips to North Platte this past week to cover the SPVA Conference Tournament. Had some fog to battle on the trip home on Thursday but the roads were alright. I saw a lot of good basketball and talked to a lot of old friends.
I am proud to report that both the Kimball girls and boys represented our school and our town in great fashion. As I have reported several times, the Kimball girl’s team is hurting with the loss of their leading scorer, Alex Reader, who will have major knee surgery this week, but they have re-grouped and give a good effort each time out. The Kimball boys are having a great season despite not having a lot of height. They have a lot of heart and play well together and they play hard each time out.
The Kimball boys made it to the championship game with Hershey at the SPVA Tournament and gave the Panthers all they wanted before losing to the much bigger team 53-46. You fans be sure and mark down February 11 on your sports calendars as that is that date for a make-up game with Hershey that was postponed from and earlier date due to weather. That game is at Kimball!

Every week Mike Daum gives me something more to write about and brag about. The Big Mike had his best every game this past Saturday in leading this South Dakota State Jackrabbits to a 77-67 win over Fort Wayne. He set a new career high of 42 points and hit 10 treys for a school record and pulled 10 rebounds. Mike has not gone over the 1,000 point career mark in only his second year of collegiate ball and has 1,020 points. He is averaging 22.8 points per game.
