Kimball crowns two champions at Lingle

A very good day on the mats for the Kimball High wrestling team this past weekend as they had five wrestlers place and brought home two first place medals. The usual two-day tournament was shortened to just one day (Friday) due to a limited amount of entries this year.

Winning championship status were Jordan Cluff at 106 and Eric Escajeda at 285, while Jaden Mohr at 132 and Izaac Glanz at 170 both finished fourth, and Stephen Bateman was fifth at 182.

Cluff was perfect on the day in winning four matches including a pair of first period falls, a major decision and a 17-13 decision. Escajeda was also 4-0 on the day with two pins including decisions by a one point margin.

Garrett Pedersen at 126 started the day with a fall but then suffered three losses to wind up 1-3. Jaden Mohr at 132 had two byes, two wins and two losses en route to his fourth place finish. Glanz at 170 had one bye, three wins and two losses in earning his fourth place medal. Stephen Bateman at 182 received three three byes, had one win and two losses to wind up fifth.

Coach Wade Brashear was pleased with the way his wrestlers performed at Lingle. "We had a good showing at the Dogger Invitational. Due to the low numbers it was consolidated to just one day. As a team, we performed well. Nice to have two champions and five placers. We will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Mitchell Invitational, and at home on Jan. 31when we host the SPVA Conference Tournament," he said.

Fans will be treated to some outstanding wrestling at both of these upcoming tournaments, so make plans to be there.
