Dead Eye Shooters work towards state competition

The Dead Eye Shooters 4-H club of Kimball have competed across the panhandle and brought home lots of hardware this past month.

On Sunday, Feb. 5, six members of The Dead Eye Shooters 4-H club competed in the Hyannis Panhandle Best Shoot.

In bb gun competition, Jessica Terrill earned first place in the nine and ten-year-old brackets with a score of 361. Julia Winstrom (355) and Chris Foster (346) brought home second and fourth place, respectively, in the 11-12 age bracket and Winstrom placed first in the kneeling category.

Winstrom also earned second in her age bracket for the sporter air rifle competition with a score of 230 while Foster placed fifth with a score of 212 and also took first in the prone position.

Jared Barnes placed seventh in sporter air rifle in the 13-14 age bracket with a score of 181.

In the 15 -18 age division, Shauntea Daily earned second place with a score of 273 and took first in the prone position while Jaren Winstrom placed eleventh overall in the same age bracket with a score of 234.

Foster placed third in the 11-12 age bracket in precision air rifle competition with a total score of 140. Teammates Barnes (148) and Daily (249) also placed third in their age brackets, 13-14 and 15-18, respectively.

The Kimball Dead Eye Shooters hosted their Panhandle Best Competition on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Kimball High School in Kimball. There were 51 BB Gun, 35 Sporter Air Rifle and 15 Precision Air Rifle participants from all over the Panhandle.

Results for the Kimball Dead Eye Shooters from that competition begin with bb gun competition. In the eight year old division, Ashlynn Kuhns placed sixth overall with a score of 237 and Khol Krakow placed eighth with a score of 203.

Terrill led in the 9-10 age bracket with a total score of 358 and she took first place in both prone and sitting.

Nolan Cook placed twelfth with a score of 276, Athena Tambanillo followed in 13th with a score of 269, Braylon Miller and Braxton Miller placed 15th and 16th respectively with scores of 218 and 208.

Julia Winstrom took third in the 11-12 year old bb gun competition with a total score of 342 followed by Foster in fourth place with a 33, Louise Tambanillo in seventh with a 310 and Kylie Fiehtner in tenth with a score of 289.

Barnes place sixth overall in the 13-14 age bracket with a score of 351 and Maddie Cook placed eleventh with a score of 344.

For sporter air rifle competition in Kimball, Julia Winstrom placed second overall with a score of 233 and earned first place in the prone position and Foster placed fifth with a score of 157.

Cook placed sixth in sporter air rifle for 13-14 year olds with a score of 207 and earned first place in the prone position while Barnes placed eighth with a score of 196.

Daily placed third in the 15-18 age bracket for sporter air rifle with a total score of 273.

At the Kimball precision air rifle competition, Foster took third place in the 11-12 age division with a score of 152 while Barnes placed third amongst the 13-14 year olds with a score of 151 and Daily placed third in the 15-18 age bracket with a score of 276.

Following a successful local competition, nine Kimball competitors traveled to the Alliance for the 4-H Panhandle Best BB Gun and Air Rifle Competition on Sunday, Feb. 26.

In bb gun competition, Khol Krakow placed 14th amongst eight year olds with a total score of 184.

Terrill took first place overall in the 9-10 age bracket with a score of 376 and also earned first place in prone, standing and kneeling positions.

Nolan Cook placed 12th in the same age division with a total score of 296.

Julia Winstrom placed fourth in the 11-12 age bracket with a score of 347 and Foster placed ninth with a score of 325.

Maddie Cook took ninth in the 13-15 age division with a score of 347 followed by Barnes in tenth with a total score of 335.

In sporter air rifle competition, Julia Winstrom took second in the 11-12 age bracket with a total score of 241. Winstrom also earned first place in prone and standing positions while teammate Foster earned fourth place with a total score of 208.

Barnes (214) placed sixth in the 13-14 age bracket with Maddie Cook (187) following in eighth place.

Daily earned second place with a total of 272 points and Jaren Winstom placed 12th with a total score of 231 in the 15-18 age bracket.

In precision air rifle at the Alliance meet, Barnes place fourth with a score of 187 amongst 13-14 year-olds and Daily earned second place with a score of 277 in the 15-18 age bracket.

Next up for the 4-H club is competition in Ogallala next week and Kimball will host the State Match on March 18 – 19.
