District adopts school leadership standards

During the most recent Kimball Board of Education meeting the board updated the standards by which all school leaders are evaluated.

Board members chose to evaluate administrators in the district by the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC), a set of recently developed standards that, according to the ISLLC website, are meant to help strengthen preparation programs in school leadership.

“This is the basis for future administrative evaluations,” Superintendent Marshall Lewis. “Recently we have felt the need to improve all of our evaluation tools, and basing my evaluation, as well as that of other administrators, on the ISLLC foundation of thought and research seemed to be appropriate.”

There are six ISLLC standards in which educational leaders must demonstrate knowledge, accompanying attitude and performance.

“These help us to clarify our roles and major aspects of our leadership roles. We modified them only slightly to fit Kimball, and these will be implemented next year,” Lewis said.

Below is a list of the original ISLLC standards as stated on the official website:

Standard 1: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.

Standard 2: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.

Standard 3: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by ensuring management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.

Standard 4 : A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.

Standard 5: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.

Standard 6: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
