Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Nearly 1,500 vocal and instrumental musicians, representing area high schools including Banner County, Bayard, Bridgeport, Crawford, Gering, Kimball, Leyton, Minatare, Mitchell, Morrill, Potter-Dix, Scottsbluff, Sidney, Sioux County, and South Platte competed for ratings based on a standard of musical excellence.
A rating of (I) represents superior or outstanding work; (II) represents excellent work; (III) represents a good or average performance; (IV) indicates below average work; and a (V) indicates a poor performance. Award certificates were presented to soloists, small ensembles, and large ensembles earning a superior rating. Plaques were awarded to large ensembles earning a unanimous superior rating from all three judges. One Outstanding Performance and two Honorable Mention Performance awards were selected by each judge for solo and small ensemble excellence.
Kimball's Leisha Casimiro received an Outstanding Performance award for her vocal solo and Nicholas Thomas-Lewis was given honorable mention. Audrey Day on piano and Kaden Adrian on trumpet, both of Kimball, received honorable mentions for their instrumental solos.
Kimball's superior female voice performances included Leisha Casimiro, Victoria Huff, Kennedy Lewis, Crystal Pile with Jenna Greenwood and Lila Moore receiving excellent ratings.
Thomas-Lewis was the sole superior male voice performer with excellent ratings given to Jesus Arturo Fernandez and Alexander Flores.
Superior instrumental performers from Kimball also included Casimiro, Adrian, Morgan Nicole Delaplane, Crystal Pile, Ethan Culek-Schaeffer and Desyree Nelson.
The Kimball High School show choir was given a superior rating with the mixed chorus and jazz band each earning excellent ratings.
Banner County's Micah Wicker earned an honorable mention for his instrumental solo on base guitar. Josh Boston earned superior ratings for his male voice solo, his piano solo and his snare drum solo. Josie Whelchel earned a superior for her female voice solo and an excellent rating on tenor sax solo. Other Banner students who earned excellent ratings include Zanacia Chalupa, Tiffany Murphy, Bailee Underhill, Naveah William and Jacob Kaiser.
Banner County's concert band was given a superior rating and their mixed chorus was rated excellent.
Potter-Dix's concert band, percussion ensemble, show choir, mixed chorus, clarinet duet and a flute duet all earned superior ratings.
Ratings of excellent were given to the Potter-Dix girl's trio as well as to three girls duets and a trumpet duet.
Students at Potter-Dix who earned excellent ratings include Decendis Serrano and Payge Hoffman for their female voice solos as well as Michaela Rotert, Presley Christensen, Levi Kasten and JT Herboldsheimer for their instrumental solos.
