No One Fights Alone KHS staff and students raise funds

As one Kimball teacher battles ovarian cancer, another sets out to prove that no one fights alone.

Kathleen O’Brien, longtime Kimball teacher, has been fighting cancer but Jeri Ferguson and her high school civics class, in a show of support, have planned a fundraiser for her.

When the 2017 class heard about their Junior High teacher, they wanted to do everything they could do to help, according to Ferguson, and because previous fundraising efforts were so well-liked, the students put together another one.

To stave off teenagers’ mid-day hunger, the civics class is also selling snacks throughout each day, before, during and after classes, in the civics classroom.

Additionally, up until May 3, high school students will be allowed to wear a hat in school for $2 each day and every teacher can wear jeans for the low price of $5. Donation/vote buckets have been placed in the high school library with the names of teachers and students.

Then, on Wednesday, May 3, students will once again unite in the downtown business district offering to clean up.

Ferguson said, “This is our second year doing our community clean up day/fundraiser. Last years seniors wanted to help get the theater going again. The intention was to get something else in the community going. The seniors this year, after hearing about Mrs. O’Brien, that this year, that is who they wanted to help.”

Finally, following the clean-up day, they will host an egg Russian roulette. Two seniors and two teachers will be chosen for this fun event based on whose donation/vote bucket has the most money.

The students and staff at Kimball High School have found many ways to show their support, appreciation and care for this teacher. We all hope she gets better soon. No one fights alone!
