Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Cold and winter type weather has played havoc with our area sports schedules once again so not a lot to report this meet that was held on a very nasty afternoon/evening.
The junior high track at Pine Bluffs this past week has been cancelled. The SPVA high school track at Hershey was postponed and moved back from last Friday to this past Tuesday. The Western Trails Golf Tournament to be held at Mitchell this past Saturday was postponed and moved to Kimball to be held in conjunction with the Kimball Invitational Tournament. The Bayard Golf Tournament originally scheduled for way beck on April 1, was rescheduled for May 9, but now the SPVA Tournament at Sutherland has taken over that date so it remains to be seen if Bayard will reschedule once again or go ahead with the May 9th date.
The weather has really taken a toll on area spring sports, and it is driving the area activities directors up the wall as they try to rearrange dates, locations and officials.
Kimball High boy’s golf coach Chad Wise would really like to get his boys on the different courses and get some golf played. “It doesn’t do my guys much good to combine two tournaments into one round of golf. It can determine the winners of a couple different tournaments, but it still comes down to just getting to play one course, and one round of golf. We need to get on different golf courses so we can learn how to adjust to the different courses. It helps us mentally to get ready for our District, and hopefully the state tournaments we have ahead of us.”
That being said, you golf fans should make an effort to get out to the Four Winds Course today, Thursday, May 4, to see Western Trails Tournament with the Kimball Invitational, it promises to attract a lot of schools including some of the bigger Nebraska schools and some from Wyoming. Lets hope the weather is somewhat nice. Then on May 9, next Tuesday, the Kimball golf team goes to Sutherland to defend their SPVA title. Their district tournament is coming up May 16 at Cambridge. By the way, the Four Winds Course will be closed to open golf until 3:30 p.m. today, Thursday, but everyone is welcome to come out and follow you favorite group of golfers and add your support.
The Kimball junior high track team is headed the Sutherland today, Thursday, for the SPVA track meet, and one of the larger high school track invites of the season is at Bayard tomorrow, Friday, with the annual B-C-D meet taking place at the Bayard facilities, so you track fans might want to be sure and make plans to ead to Bayard tomorrow. This is the final meet prior to the District meets that take place next week. Kimball will be at Mitchell for their district meet next Thursday, May 11.

Four Winds Pro Chad Wise has asked me to remind all members of the Four Winds Men’s league and the Thursday Men’s Golf league to get signed up by calling the Pro Shop if you want to play in this Sunday’s combined scramble that will tee off at 1 p.m. Chad said there will still be open golf but you need to call in for your tee times to work around the scramble.

Pat O’Brien, President of the Four Winds Men’s league also reminds anyone interested in playing in the Monday-Tuesday night league this summer, to contact either him or Chad Wise at the Pro Shop right away. League play begins the first week of June. Also, any golfers, male or female, not in a league and desiring to have a GHIN card handicap, you need to let him or Chad know by May 10. The cost is $18 for adults and $10 for anyone 18 or younger.
