Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball High boy's golf team took care of business on their home course this past week and racked up two more wins while taking top honors in both the Western Trails Conference Tournament, as well as the Kimball Invitational, in a dual scored event.
The Longhorns shot the low score of the day in both formats with their round of 329. Looking first at the Western Trails Conference bracket, Mitchell finished second with 367, followed by Bridgeport with 373, Gordon-Rushville 380 and Hemingford 475. Morrill and Bayard were short players and did not figure in the team scoring although they had individuals compete.
Eric Stevens of Bridgeport was the medalist in both divisions with his low round of 78. Kimball took the next four spots with Zane Anthony runner-up and just one stroke behind Stevens with his round of 37-42=79, Dillon Wise was third with a round of 37-43=80, Andrew McCloud was fourth with 40-42=82 and Izaac Reuter was fifth with 47-41=88. Jordan Greenwood finished seventh with 44-45=89 to give Kimball five golfers in the top ten medal group. Other top ten golfers were Seth Marcoe of Mitchell sixth with 88, Caden Brown – Mitchell, eighth with 89 and Cleveland Burnett – Mitchell ninth with 92. Trace Beguin – Gordon-Rushville was tenth with 93.
In the Kimball Invite Division, Perkins County trailed Kimball to finish runner-up with their score of 338, Mitchell was third with 367 followed by Bridgeport 373, Sidney 377, Gordon-Rushville 380, Garden County 384, Perkins County JV 394, Creek Valley 409, Kimball JV 412 and Hemingford 475.
The top three individual places were the same as the WTC with Stevens of Bridgeport medalist with 78, Zane Anthony – Kimball second with 79, Dillon Wise – Kimball third with 80. Josh Johnson of Perkins County was fourth with 81, Andrew McCloud – Kimball fifth with 82, Tyson Patrick – Perkins County sixth with 83, Elliott Jones – Sidney seventh with 84, Tyler Thelander – Perkins County eighth with 85, Brendan Walker – Kimball ninth with 85 and Izaac Reuter – Kimball tenth with 88.
A very good day for freshman Brendan Walker, playing on the Kimball JV team and shooting 45-40=85 to give him the ninth place medal in the Kimball Invite. Jaren Winstrom shot 53-49=102, Ethan Greenwood 54-54=108 and Jacob Walker 61-56=117 in other JV scores.
The Kimball team was at Sutherland this past Tuesday in a postponed date for the SPVA Conference Tournament. This would complete the regular season and is the final warm-up prior to the District Tournament set for next Tuesday, May 16, at Cambridge.
