Donald Gene Onigkeit, 62 of Kimball, Nebraska passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at his home after a five-year battle with cancer.
His memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Presbyterian Church in Kimball with Pastor Alan Foutz officiating. Family requests casual attire. At his request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Andy Shaw Memorial, Festival of Hope or Regional West Hospice. Don was born in Kimball, Nebraska on November 1, 1954 to Lester ad Orleatha (Heidemann) Onigkeit. He graduated from Kimball in 1973. He worked for Ford as a mechanic for many years. He married Connie Jo Sanders July 4, 1985. They lived in Sidney until 1996, when they had a house built and moved to Kimball. George, Don's loving feline friend helped Don heal after a motor vehicle accident in 1987, which disabled Don. George passed on in 2002. The most enjoyable time of day was his morning "Coffee Group." Everyone who knew Don enjoyed his sense of humor, especially the Dr.'s, nurses and Hospice team.
He is survived by his wife Connie; brother Doug Onigkeit; sisters Treva Jackson and Kathy Brekeller; mother-in-law Gloria Sanders; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Linden and Cherrie Sanders, Mike and Pam Nienhuser, Tom and Colleen Grimm and Deanna Brannan; uncle Merlyn Heidemann and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne, brothers-in-law John Jackson, John Brekeller and Carl Brannan and maternal and paternal grandparents.
