Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

Another big weekend of golf now in the books and the Vince’s Corner ABCD Two Day Blind Draw 4 Person Scramble had a great turnout and two days of good weather. It is a sight to behold when you drive out to the Four Winds Golf Course and see all the cars and campers sitting there with license plates from all over. What a boost of our golf course and to our community. Henry Heeg promotes a great tournament and Four Winds Pro Chad Wise makes sure it runs smoothly and Jeremy Williams has the course groomed to where it draws lot of favorable comments.

Now get ready for the next big happening at the Four Winds and that is the annual Kimball Hospital Foundation four person scramble coming up August 5. This event always attracts a large turnout as well with lots of out of town golfers coming to town along with our local entries. Cost is just $300 per team or $75 per player and this gets you 18 holes of golf, lunch and a buffet supper at the Windbreak Restaurant, a Foundation Golf Classic wind jacket, a putting contest , and numerous raffle and flag prizes. Entry deadline is July 21 so get signed up soon.

-----------------------------------------------

Have you purchased drawing tickets yet at the Four Winds Pro Shop for a chance to win one of many fantastic prizes in a contest to raise funds to go toward the maintenance of the Four Winds Golf Course? A total of just 500 tickets will be sold at $10 each so you have a good shot at winning, and you do not need to be present to win. The drawing will be held September 10 and tickets are available at the Four Winds Pro Shop. Help a good cause and perhaps go home a happy winner.

Dillon Wise had another good day on the golf course at Mitchell this past week finishing second, and just one stroke from winning with his 77 stroke round during play in the Panhandle Junior Golf Tour event. Payton Wise finished out of the top three with her round of 95 but still a good effort for the 13 year old eighth grader competing with the High School girls.

-----------------------------------------------

Zane Anthony, Kimball High junior to be this fall, is competing in the Nebraska Junior Amateur this week at Beemer, Nebraska. There will be two days of qualifying to advance on to additional days of play. After a very good sophomore season with a state medal winning performance, we are pulling for Zane to do well at Beemer, which by the way is north of Omaha.

-------------------------------

The Star Herald listed their All Region Track and Boy’s Golf selections this past week and Kimball hit it big in the golf department with Jordan Greenwood making their first team and also was their All Region All Star Golfer of the Year! Kimball had all five of their varsity golfers make the list with sophomores Dillon Wise and Zane Anthony named to the second team and Andrew McCloud listed on the third team. Izaac Reuter was Honorable Mention. Everyone with the exception of Jordan Greenwood returns next year.

-----------------------------------------------

Selected to the All Region boy’s track first team was Brady Kilgore in the 110 meter high hurdles. Hannah Biesecker made the girl’s All Region first team in the long jump, and both Brady and Hannah will be back next season.

Potter Dix had two girls honored All Region as well with Trinity Langley listed first team in the high jump and second team in the triple jump. Alexus Rozelle was first team discus and second team shot-put.

Kimball’s Danika Daum, a member of the Western Nebraska Community College Women’s Volleyball Team this past season, has been selected to the NJCAA second team academic team. To achieve this honor she had to finish with a grade point average of 3.60 or higher.
