Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball's Shelby Vogel begins her senior year at Dakota State University this year, and she is once again on the varsity basketball roster for the Trojans.
The 22-year-old is studying to be a secondary english teacher and her team welcomes a new head coach, David Moe.
Moe, comes to the Lady T's basketball team from Mayville State in North Dakota, where he was the assistant women's coach for the last decade.
He helped lead the Comets to multiple trips to the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament and 'Top 20' national rankings, according to the DSU website and he helped recruit All-American, All-Conference and All-Academic athletes for his former team.
His responsibilities with the Comets included recruiting coordinator, opponents' scouting and game preparations, skill development with perimeter players and summer camps, according to the site.
Following a losing season last year, the girls are very excited about Coach Moe, according to her mom, Lynn, who added that now 2 games into the season they are already seeing vast improvement and the girls are clearly having fun!
"In fact, after the first game this season, during Shelby's post game call home she said to us 'I haven't felt this good and had this much fun playing since high school!'"
During her senior year in Kimball, Vogel played 24 games, averaged 11.3 points per game, 1 assist and 5.2 rebounds per game, 2.3 steals per game, and 0.2 blocks per game.
Moe is originally from Barnesville, Minn. and graduated from Mayville State in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Sports Management. Along with coaching at Mayville State, he has also been an instructor in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Division.
He received his Master of Science in Recreation and Sport Sciences from Ohio University in 2015.
David and his wife Sheena have three daughters – Kinsley (5), Jocey (3) and Addi (7 months). They will be residing in Madison later this summer.
Best wishes to Shelby this season and in her final year at Dakota State University!
