Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball’s One Act students showcased their acting talents on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the District competition, narrowly missing the top three placements.
Despite the fourth-place finish, Kennedy Lewis, Kaden Adrian and Paycen Harroun, all of Kimball, were nominated for best actress and actors.
The one-act play for the 2017 season, “The Blender,”features Stanley, the host, portrayed by Harroun, and four “snatchers,” played by Lewis, Adrian, Jaden Mohr and Alexander Flores.
The snatchers were tasked with following people (specimens) and, during any dramatic moment, freezing them in time and placing them in a reality tv show.
The frozen specimens, portrayed by Nicholas Thomas-Lewis, Kiersten Anderson and Devin Gardner were brought onto the stage where each scenario was played out.
The play was frought with tension and featured arguments, fights, an acceptance letter and one of rejection. One specimen was abandoned in the woods and pregnant, and another was frozen in time while jumping off a building.
Other actors portrayed audience members in the reality show, seated throughout the actual audience, and were given lines such as, “We hear you, Stanley.”
Kimball’s cast and crew sought help from the entire audience cheering and yelling throughout the play and, as many had hoped, the crowd was soon roaring – adding to the experience for the Kimball team on stage.
Following each performance, the team was critiqued and as the Kimball team approached the critique room, coach Mr. Hoffman, gave everyone a high-five with a smile and said, “Great job!”
Following the final performance, the crowd nervously awaiting the announcement of placement and best actor nominations.
Each actor or actress nominated stood as their name was called and then, the moment everyone was waiting for... first place went to Bridgeport.
Kimball had a great season this year, according to team members, with many good memories, and everyone is excited to see what next year has in store for the Kimball High School One Act team.
