I moved to Kimball in the fall of 1979 and right from the start, I learned how generous and how supportive the Kimball community is of Kimball High School programs. During my first year in Kimball as a member of the marching band, we had to go out into the community and raise money for our trip to Calgary, Canada. Of course we were able to accomplish this goal and experienced the trip of a lifetime.
Not only I have I experienced the generosity of the Kimball community as a student, but also as an instructor. The 2018 Senior Class has been working since September to bring in a motivational speaker. They asked for and received some KENO money from the City of Kimball and received additional funds from the County to help pay the speaking fee for Aaron Davis, a motivational speaker from Lincoln, Nebraska. We then learned that we needed to come up with $800 for his traveling expenses.
After some discussion, the students headed out into the community to try and raise some of the money. We were just trying to come up with some of the $800. The seniors, to show everyone how committed they are to this idea, agreed to each donate $5.00 to the cause. Within two class periods, due to the generosity and
support of this wonderful community, we had almost all of the money we needed.
I feel so blessed to live in a community that supports the school so much!! Your help does not go unnoticed and is not taken for granted. I just wanted to take a moment to publicly thank this community for the unwavering support that I, as an educator and coach, continue to feel. I also want to thank you on behalf of the seniors
for your support in this particular project.
By the way, the community is invited to hear Mr. Davis this Thursday night, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Harry McNees Auditorium. A member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers 1994 National Championship football team, he is known as “The Expert on Attitude.” Admission is free and I think you’ll be glad you came.
