Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

The Kimball Winter Sports Season is about to kiss us good-bye. The girl’s sub-district basketball tournament is taking place this week and the Kimball boys close out the regular season tomorrow (Friday) night when they host Mitchell. They will move into sub-district tournament play on Tuesday at Gering and it looks like they will play the 5:30 game against top seed Bridgeport.

Friday’s home game with Mitchell is boys only with the JV game at 4 and the varsity game early at 5:30. It is also senior Parent’s night where we honor the senior players and their parents, but in this case, it is going to be Senior Player Night, as Kimball has only 1 senior, so we could call it Kole Bush Night. Kole and his parents get the spotlight tomorrow evening.

The junior high boys basketball team finished out their season this past Tuesday and we will be writing up a year-end result story for you readers, thanks to info provided me by Coach Dane Wurdeman.

We have had to leave out some junior varsity basketball results too, as late, as the stories got squeezed out due to lack of room, but we will still try and get those out to you readers also.

Can you believe that the first day of practice for Nebraska spring sports is February 26th? This should bring us some good cold and wet Nebraska weather for sure.

Wishing Jordan Cluff the best at the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament that begins today (Thursday) in Omaha. Also wishing all of our area girls and boys the best in their district basketball action. Let’s close it out in style. Would really like to see the Potter-Dix girls get back to the State Tournament.

When the Kimball High girls and boys played at Pine Bluffs this past week, we got the opportunity to see the very good Pine Bluffs teams in action. Amazing to see the tall lineup the Pine girls can put on the floor. They have 5 girls that are 6 foot or taller.

I also go to see the best boy player I have seen this season in Haize Fornstrom. The 6’3” senior can do it all. He shoots the long ball, handles the ball very well and can jump out of the gym with his leaping ability. He can go inside and slam it down. And guess what? It looks like he doesn’t plan to take his basketball any farther as he signed a letter of intent to play football at the University of Wyoming as a Preferred Walk-on. Yes, he is also a very gifted football player.
