Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
A split week for the Kimball Lady Longhorns as they suffered a loss at Pine Bluffs, with the Lady Hornets winning 63-38, but coming back Friday night on the home court to win 57-50 over Hemingford.
The Lady Longhorns were up against a lot of height when they travelled to Pine Bluffs for a Tuesday evening contest, as the Lady Hornets have 5 players on the roster at 6 foot or taller and start 3 of those 5! Pine is both tall and young as they start 3 juniors and 2 sophomores and have only 2 seniors on the roster.
A good first quarter for Kimball as they were only 2 points down after the first 8 minutes, trailing 13-11, thanks in large part to Hannah Biesecker’s 7 points. The hosts improved their margin to 30-20 by half-time, outscoring Kimball 17-9 in the second period. The winners were in control the entire second half.
Kammie Ragsdale, one of those 6 footers, led the winners with 31 points, including a pair of treys. Sophie Howard, a 6’1” sophomore, had 10 points. Dylan Sweeter, a 6 foot sophomore, had 8, Hyleigh Fornstrom, a 6 foot sophomore, had 5, Paige Thompson 4, Torri Long 2, Kayla Thurin 2 and Maddie Fornstrom 1, with 8 Lady Hornets getting in the scoring act.
Kimball had 5 players score, led by Hannah Biesecker with 11, including 1 trey. She was also top rebounder with 8. Megan Spicer had 9 and the young freshman guard continues to improve. Sam Bemis, another freshman on Coach Chauncey Pedersen’s lineup, had 8 points, with 1 trey and had 7 rebounds. Sophomore, Carli Wurdeman, had 8 points, with 1 trey and Raven Johnson, a freshman, had 2.
In team stats, Kimball was only 21% from the field going 12/58, including 3/19 on 3 point attempts, were 11/19 on foul shooting for 58%, had 30 rebounds, 3 steals, 8 assists, 29 turnovers and 18 fouls.
