Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Team closed out their season with a 50-47 win over Mitchell Friday night and with the win ended up with a winning season of 10 wins and 4 losses.
The JV boys entertained the crowd, like they have been doing all season, with some spirited play and good team work. There is some basketball talent in this group of sophomores and freshmen, and they play well together. After getting out to a 10-4 lead after one quarter of play, they kept it up to outscore the visitors 15-8 in the second quarter to lead 25-12 at half-time. After three quarters of play, Kimball led 39-25, but Mitchell came roaring back in the fourth quarter to outscore Kimball 22-11 and kept the fans on the edge of their seats to the final buzzer.
Some outstanding play by Freshman, Javon Coyle, with key rebounds and a slick assist pass to Brayden Tyan, who made a slick move of his own for a reverse layup with less than :20 seconds showing on the clock, helped preserve the win.
Kimball had 8 players in the scoring columns with Brendan Walker and Sam Cajero both finishing with 9 points and both hitting a trey. Jacob Withrow had 8 Brayden Tyan 8, Beau Hanks 8 with 2 treys, Javon Coyle 4, Austin Lulf 3 with a trey and Cole Henton 1.
Mitchell was led by Devon Ott with 17, Jaron Anderson with 12, Ryan Aguallo 8, Caden Knutson 8 and Carter Snyder 2. Mitchell also has some very talented young freshmen players and list 12 on their roster, along with 7 sophomores, but no juniors and 4 seniors. Kimball, on the other hand, has only 2 frosh on the roster.
