Today is non-incumbents' deadline to file for office

With the first filing deadline past and the final one looming, incumbents planning to run for office, have filed and non-incumbents must do so by 5 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, March 1.

At the time of this writing, 27 candidates have filed for various public offices.

Kimball County has two open County Commissioner offices up for election and incumbents Larry Engstrom and Daria Anderson have both filed for reelection as Democrats. Currently, there are no other interested parties listed.

Sherry Winstrom has filed for reelection as the Kimball County Assessor, David Wilson is up for reelection as the county attorney and Cathy Sibal has filed for reelection as Kimball County Clerk.

Deb Diemoz (R) has filed for reelection as the Clerk of the District Court and Diana Engstrom (R) has filed to run against her.

Kimball County Sheriff, Harry Gillway, has filed for his position once again, and to date there is no race.

Kimball County Treasurer, Diana Quicke, did not file for reelection for her office, but longtime employee, Cindy Rahmig (R) has filed instead. Currently no other parties have filed for that office.

Elizabeth Ann Gillway has filed as a delegate for the county convention in the First Ward, and though there is another similar position open, no one else has yet filed.

There is a race for Kimball Mayor with incumbent, Keith Prunty, having filed, as well, as non-incumbent James Cederburg.

There is one Kimball City Council seat up for the coming election and, to date, five people are challenging the incumbent, Christy Warner, for that seat. They are John Morrison, Jim Calvin, Aaron J. Rabin, Matt Bright and Robert Martin.

Currently this is the sole local primary race, however, as non-incumbents file for offices, that may change.

John Ferguson and Ryan McElroy have both filed for reelection on the Kimball Airport Authority, each for six-year terms.

Three Kimball Board of Education seats are available. Lynn Vogel, Brad Reader and Matthew Shoup have all filed to remain on that board with Jared Reich, Renee Castagna and Dakota Kuhns adding their names to the hat.

Though there are four seats on the Bushnell Village Board, M. Timothy Nolting is the sole candidate filed to date and not one candidate has filed for the four Dix Village Board seats open. Village candidates are not required to file for office until July or August.

Governor Pete Ricketts (R) has filed for reelection with fellow Republican Krystal Gabel and three Democrats, Vanessa Gayle Ward, Tyler A. Davis and Bob Krist, running for the same position.

Bob Evnen (R) and Spencer Danner (D) are running for Secretary of State, Republican John Murante is the sole candidate currently running for State Treasurer, Republican Charlie Janssen for Auditor of Public Accounts.

Candidates that have already filed for United States Senator include Jane Raybould (D), Frank B. Svoboda (D), Mark Elworth, Jr. (L), Jack Heidel (R), Larry Marvin (D), Dennis Frank Macek (R), Deb Fischer (R) and Chris Janicek (D).

Congressional candidates to date include democratic candidates Dennis P. Crawford, Jessica McClure, Kara Eastman, Brad Ashford, Paul Theobald and republican candidates Jeff Fortenberry, Don Bacon, Kirk Penner, Larry Lee Scott Bolinger, Adrian Smith and Arron Kowalski.

Incumbent Doug Peterson (R) has filed for reelection as the Nebraska Attorney General and Evangelos Argyrakis (D) has filed to run against Peterson.
