Kimball Transit readies for Transit Week

Last Tuesday, March 20, the Board of Commissioners met with Dan Osborne, from Top Coat, Inc. to discuss and consider a proposal to chip seal a few different roads in Kimball County.

The sections of roads include; four miles south and two and a half miles north on County Road 59, two miles north on county road 17, one mile south on county road 45, and all from Highway 30 and 8/10 of a mile on County Road 28, west of Highway 71.

After discussion, the board decided that these roads will be chip sealed this summer starting September 1.

A discussion to repair seven miles of County Road 59 between County Road 24 and County Road 10 was tabled to a later date, with the Commissioners not seeing enough money in the budget to take action on this road at this time.

Transit Week is quickly approaching and the local Kimball Transit Service is sure making waves. According to the January and February report from Christy Warner, County Transit Services Administrator, the numbers are looking great so far.

The service billed $389 in Medicaid rides between the first two months. In just the month of January, there were a total of 824 rides given, out-of-town rides included, six to Cheyenne, 12 to Scottsbluff, 48 to Sidney and one to Fort Collins.

In the month of February the service provided 796 rides, with two trips to Cheyenne, nine to Scottsbluff and six to Sidney.

Warner shared that the wheelchair accessible mini-van arrived in Omaha, but it will be 30-45 days before they receive the title and the inspections are complete.
