Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Let me begin by saying that I prefer to write about the fun events, the good news and the easy-to-read features of small town life. I do not enjoy writing negative articles about anyone or anything, nor do others in this job position.
Regardless of who you are or what you’ve done, and no matter what I personally think of you, this is the job and it will be done, no ifs, ands, or buts.
A reporter’s job is to communicate facts to the public in an accurate and fair report, even if it is something people aren’t happy to read. We use many sources, including arrest affidavits, police reports, interviews and press releases.
When necessary we follow up with emails and phone calls to officials seeking clarification. These are credible sources of information available at the time.
We use the credible information available to write the story, whether that be a drug bust, car accident or bar fight. What happens later, whether charges stand, are reduced or get dropped, is unavailable to us until such measures are taken.
These stories are printed, not to damage reputations, but to inform the public, and if a mistake is made, I will do what I can to make it right. I will not, however, apologize for doing my job.
Occasionally, the story demands additional reports. If this is the case, I will do my best to follow up with credible sources and ensure the complete story is told.
If you want to contact me and allege that I portrayed you unfairly, misconstrued the facts or slandered your name, please do. I am happy to hear you, review my work, and the sources credited, to ensure the report was made fairly with the facts as we receive them.
*Editor’s note* Courthouse Records come from the nebraska.gov public access kiosk located at the Clerk of the District Court’s office in the Kimball County Courthouse. These records are available to the public at all time. We encourage respectful and responsible feedback from our readers, including those who feel we have made an error in reporting.
