Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball High School Civics class is busy once again before the end of the current school year. They will be hosting a Political Forum later this month for all public office candidates who will be on the primary ballot in May.
Community members are encouraged to join the class to get to know the candidates better, and to express questions and concerns.
Candidates will each have two minutes to present their goals and objectives before the Civics students present follow-up questions to each candidate.
“We want to get the word out about this (political forum), we want people to want to get involved and we hope more (citizens) will come out to vote,” said senior Alex Reader.
The Political Forum will be held on Monday, April 30, at 6 p.m. in the Kimball High School student center.
The class’ second project is the Community Clean-Up day, scheduled for May 1, starting around 8 a.m. Kimball High students participating in clean up in the downtown area and local businesses have been asked to provide students with a list of tasks with which they can assist.
“We will split up the student body into groups, there will be 11 students in each group,” said Reader. Some of the businesses already contacted include, the Goodhand Theater, Main Street Market, Kimball Public Library and the local banks.
“This is a way for us (KHS students) to give back to our community,” said senior Nicolas Thomas-Lewis.
