Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball girls captured the team title of the Potter-Dix Junior High Track Invite held at the Kimball site this past week, scoring 152 points to hold off Burns, who finished just a few points back with 147. Pine Bluffs had 69, Leyton 44, Morrill 17, Minatare 17, Potter-Dix 16 and Banner County 3.
Leyton won the boy's division with 171 points, followed by Burns with 81.5, Potter-Dix 77, Pine Bluffs 67, Kimball 23, Morrill 16.5, Minatare 15 and Banner County 14.
The Kimball girls are loaded with talent in almost every event. They have speed and placed 3 girls in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Chantel Malson won both sprints with a winning time of 14.15 in the 100 meters and 31.69 in the 200. Maddie Merryfield ran 4th in the 100 in 15.25 and Tianna Stierwalt was 6th in 15.31. Jayden Paxton was 3rd in the 200 in 32.24 and Emma Patterson was 4th at 32.52.
Caelyn Long is a good distance runner, winning the 1600 in 6:41.50 and taking 4th in the 800 at 3:06.62. Anabela Whitehead ran 5th in the 1600 with her time of 7:08.50. In the hurdles, Maddie Merryfield ran 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles in 19.93 and 2nd in the 200 meter hurdles in 38.25. Katie Heeg was 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles in 20.12.
The 4x100 relay team of Stierwalt, Malson, Amy Birkhofer and Payton Wise, won the event in 59.02. The 4x400 relay team of Jayden Paxton, Kallie Crossman, Charlotte Hargreaves and Emma Patterson ran 4th in 5:28.34.
In the field events, Jayden Paxton won the high jump at 4'2". Chantel Malson was 3rd in the vault at 6'0". Katie Heeg won the long jump at 13'2.5" with Tianna Stierwalt 3rd at 12'7". Heeg also won the triple jump at 28'7", Amy Birkhofer was 3rd at 26'5.5" and Tianna Stierwalt 6th at 24'9.5". Birkhofer also won the shotput at 26'6.5" with Sarinda Bateman 3rd at 24'0".
For the Kimball boys, Aiden Drake ran 5th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.66 and was 5th in the 200 at 28.57. Thomas Muldoon was 2nd in the 1600 with his time of 6:13.51. Muldoon was also 5th in the vault at 8'0". Azael Flores was 2nd in the shotput at 35'8" and Brayden Schildhauer was 6th in the discus at 82'1".
