Larry Wallin

Larry Wallin, 70, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball with his family by his side after a 6 year battle with cancer on Saturday, April 28, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Alan Foutz officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be given by Kimball VFW Post #2243. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m., with the family present from 4:00 until 6:00. Memorials may be given in his memory to the Pheasants Forever Youth Mentor Program. The services for Larry have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Larry Wallin was born in Sidney, Nebraska on May 27, 1947, the son of Leland and Irene (Steele) Wallin. He grew up in Kimball and attended Kimball Public Schools, he graduated from the Kimball County High School in 1965. He served in the US Navy from September 1968 on the USS Forrestal as a signalman in the Mediterranean Area. He was honorably discharged in May 1970. He married Fran Rasmussen on April 22, 1972, they made their home in Kimball and Jeff and Brad were born to this union. As a young man he worked for many area farmers. Later in life he worked for K-N Energy and owned and operated L.W. Cartage and Laundry and L.W. Service. After closing these businesses, he drove a “treater truck” for Baker Petrolite, delivering oil field chemicals. Larry was an outdoorsman, and he enjoyed teaching his boys and oldest granddaughter how to hunt and fish properly and safely. He also enjoyed many family camping, hiking and fishing trips to Snowy Range in Wyoming. Fran worked with Relay for Life for 13 years, and Larry did all of the behind scene work for her. The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to Dr. Vincent Bjorling for his kind and compassionate care over the past year.

Survivors include his wife Fran of 46 years; sons Jeff (Rita) and their children Mackayla and Jentry; Brad (Tatiana Cone) and their daughter Anastasia; “adopted daughter” Jeannie Griggs and family; brother Richard (Pat) Wallin; sister Karen Wheeland; brothers-in-law Dennis (Jan) Rasmussen, Roger (Nancy) Rasmussen; sister-in-law Robyn Rasmussen; aunts Doris Steele. Elvera Varvel and Doris Rasmussen; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
