Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The spring sports season for our area athletes is fast drawing to a close. This week’s schedule has the Kimball High Boy’s Golf Team in action on the home course at the Four Winds tomorrow (Friday) and this is a chance for you fans to get out and watch our boys in action. Start time is 9 a.m., so no Open Golf until later in the day. They will also be at Bayard on Tuesday (May 8).
The Junior High Track Team is at Hershey TODAY for SPVA Conference. High School Track Team is at the Bayard B-C-D meet tomorrow (Friday) with an 8:30 am start.

I, and everyone else, enjoyed the best weather I can remember for the holding of the Best in the West Track meet this past week. It was scheduled for a Tuesday evening date, but with our usual horrible weather, the smart people delayed it one day to a beautiful evening on Wednesday. Salute! This should be done a lot more often on outdoor events. I realize it involves conflicts and arranging for officials, etc., but if it can happen to help the athletes, and for the comfort of the fans, make it happen as often as you can.

Kimball’s Mike Daum, has now made it official that he is going to delay his NBA future and return one more year for play at South Dakota State University. This should certainly make his coach at SDS a happy man, along with all of the SDS fans.
Mike said, “After taking time to explore my professional options and discussing my goals with my family and with Coach Otzelgerger, I am excited to return to South Dakota State for my senior season.” After next season, Big Mike should own almost all of the records for scoring and averages at SDS. He has proven to be one of the Nation’s best already and it can get even better before he finishes out his collegiate career. I, for one, certainly respect your decision, Mike, and know that your future is certainly one we all look eagerly forward to. Go get em you Jackrabbitt!

The Four Winds Golf Course is looking better almost daily and it needs you golfers out there. If you are going to play in any of the many leagues, you need to get signed up. The Four Winds Men league play begins the first week of June, according to Pat O’Brien, and a combined scramble of the two men’s leagues will be held May 13th at 1 p.m. Get signed up and anyone wishing to play, can call Pat at 235-5009. Also, if you are not playing in a league and want a GHIN handicap, call Pat before May 15th.
