Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Another strong showing by the Kimball Junior High girls at this past week’s Laramie County Junior High Track Invite held in Burns. Torrington won the girl’s division with 128.5 points, with Burns 2nd with 110. Kimball finished 3rd in the 11 school field with 80.5 points.
An outstanding day for Chantel Malson, who won the 100 meter dash in 14.25, ran 3rd in the 200 in 30.71, was 3rd in the pole vault at 6’6” and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay, teaming with Tianna Stierwalt, Amy Birkhofer and Payton Wise to run the winning time of 57.51.
All of Kimball’s relay teams placed, with the 4x400 relay team of Charlotte Hargreaves, Jayden Paxton, Kallie Crossman and Lily Tabor, running 4th in 5:15.01. The sprint medley relay team, which consists of distances of 100-100-200-400 meters, also ran 4th and was made up of Kaitln Heeg, Amy Birkhofer, Maddie Merryfield and Payton Wise with their time of 2:14.65.
Maddie Merryfield ran 6th in the 400 in 1:13.66 with teammate, Emma Patterson, right behind in 7th place at 1:14.03. Amy Birkhofer was 3rd in the shotput at 26’3”. Caelyn Long was 5th in the vault at 6’0” and was 5th in the long jump at 12’8”. Kate Heeg was 2nd in the long jump at 13’7.75” and 4th in the triple jump at 28’9.5”. Birkhofer was 6th at 26’10.25”.
Not a large number of points for the Kimball boys, but some good individual marks. Azael Flores was 2nd in the shotput at 37’7”. Thomas Muldoon was 6th in the vault at 7’6”. The sprint medley relay team of Flores, Caleb Schaeffer, James McGinnis and Trey Schindler, ran 4th in 2:05.84 and the 4x400 relay team ran 5th in 4:55.63.
The Kimball Junior High Track Team will be in action today (Thursday) at the SPVA Junior High meet in Hershey with a start time of 9 a.m.
