Summer action at Oliver Reservoir is increasing

Oliver Reservoir saw a few boat loads of campers, fishers, over the course of the last holiday weekend. Boats, jet skis, campers, swimmers, horses, you name it, its probably been at Oliver these past few weeks.

According to Randy Gunn, head of maintenance at Oliver, there are about 50 designated camp sites at the lake, and his best guess was nearly 40 of them were occupied over Memorial Day weekend. "It is really hard to get an accurate head count of lake-goers, especially when there are four to six or more people in one camp site. Then trying to include the day folks who are out to enjoy the beach or to fish."

One thing is for certain, Oliver has become the place to be around Kimball, campers from Wyoming, Colorado and many with 71 county tags filled the spots these past two weeks since the weather has been cooperating. "Oliver is becoming a pretty popular place to be these days," he added.

Much work is still continuing at the lake, with a new dump station in place, and the boat ramp addition complete. But, there is, hopefully, still more to come in the near future with pads and electrical hook-ups being one of the top discussions items through the South Platte NRD.
