Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Greenwood family came out on top once again in winning the championship of the 2018 Father's Day Golf Classic held this past weekend at the Four Winds Golf Course. Kenny Greenwood and his sons, Jeffrey and Jordan, shot the low rounds both days of 60-61=121 to win by 4 strokes over the Daum family team of Mark Daum and sons, Colton and Jake, that claimed 2nd place with their rounds of 63-62=125 to win by scorecard playoff over the team of Kelly Garrett, Tyler Garrett and Gene Golding who shot 62-63=125.
The first flight winning team was Doran Bush, Kole Bush and Andrew McCloud with their two-day rounds of 67-62=129. Kole and Andrew were recent graduates off the Kimball High Boy's golf team. The second place team in the first flight was decided like the championship flight by scorecard playoff with the team of Tony Robinson, his mother Nora, and Jarrod Schnell, shooting rounds of 67-65=132. The Texas team of Hobart Brown, Drew Brown and Kolby Brown shot the identical score of 67-65=132. And yes, that Drew Brown is the graduated kicker for the University of Nebraska Football team and is now vying for an NFL contract to continue his kicking.
The winners of the second flight was the team of Bert Linn, Steve Linn and Steve Pattison with rounds of 70-68=138. The team of Tom O'Brien, Cole Henton and Andrew Brown had identical rounds of 69-69-138 and finished runner-up by virtue of the scorecard playoff. A Wamsley-Wamsley-Wamsley team from Sidney took 3rd place with their rounds of 69-70=139.
A total of 32 teams competed in this year's 3-person scramble, about the same as usual. Randy Bohac, who served again this year as the chairperson for the Classic said, "We had a great turnout once again this year and I am excited that 30 of those teams were back from last year." Randy went on to say that he had golfers from 7 states playing in this year's event. He thanked everyone for playing and urged all golfers to keep the pace going to try and avoid the rain storms that threatened all weekend. He thanked all of his helpers and gave thanks to Jeremy Williams and his crew for having the course in such fine condition.
Flag prizes were handed out at the completion of play with 9 flag prizes offered both days of play. A skins game and day money were also award to the respective winners and all golfers enjoyed a Saturday night meal at the Windbreak Restaurant. Four Winds Pro, Chad Wise, and his staff, made sure everything went smoothly and that all golfers and the fans who turned out to watch were all taken care of. Despite the damp weather conditions, golfers were treated to cooler weather, which they enjoyed, and this year's event was termed a success, once again.
