Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

The annual Father’s Day Golf Classic 3-person scramble is now in the books and, like always, it certainly is a classic event hosted by the Thursday Night Men’s Golf League, with Randy Bohac, the man in charge.

It is so encouraging to see all of the many family-oriented teams of father and sons, or grandsons, or cousins, and even moms. Such was the case of the Robinson team with Father Greg out of action with a broken ankle, Mom Nora took his place, and with the help of son, Tony, and nephew, Jarrod Schnell, they ended up in 2nd place in the first flight. We missed you Greg and also son, Michael, but WOW, what a good job the subs did! Greg did his part by writing checks to the winners. See the story in this week’s paper detailing all the winners.

With one big event now history, let’s get ready for the next big event at the Four Winds and that is coming up June 30th with the annual 4-person scramble for the Teammates organization. This is another real fun event, with some great prizes and a chance to help fund a tremendous organization started by Tom Osborne years back.

The cost is just $60 per golfers, which gets you golf, a lunch prior to golf to be held at the Trap Shoot Building at 11:30 a.m., then instructions and greetings at the Pro Shop at 12:30 and a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Get your team signed up today by calling the Pro Shop at 235-4241.

Four Winds Pro Chad Wise, also asked me to let you golfers know that July 14th is the date set for the Glow Ball, 4-person scramble with 9 holes played in daylight and 9 holes played in the dark. There are limited spots open, so get signed up as soon as possible and no later than the July 5th deadline. Get more info by calling the Pro Shop.

In the boy’s grades 6-7, Tayten Zitek was 2nd with 51 over 9 holes.

In the Junior Tour Tournament at Morrill, Dillon Wise won out again in the older boys division with his round of 72. Zitek was 2nd with 78, Anthony 4th with 78 and 3rd place was also 78. Cole Henton shot a 98.

We have some of our area golfers competing in the two-day Kearney Junior Classic at the Kearney Country Club this week, but won’t have those results in time for this week’s paper. I do know that Dillon Wise shot 79 on day one and Brendan Walker 83. Payton Wise had a round of 95.
