Learning the love of reading

Scottsbluff students performed "Storyland" at the Kimball Public Library on Wednesday, June 20. The actors and actresses dressed in costumes, traveling from one library to another to perform during summer reading programs.

"I really love being involved in this group because I like meeting new people," Eric, a performer from Mitchell, said. Eric participates in the Scottsbluff reading program this summer and is excited for the adventures and children that await them.

The production was based on a child who didn't want to read in the library, but when he started, he got to see all the great adventures that reading books gives you. It taught the kids what books do, and how to check them out of the library so they can take the fun home with them.

Children had time to get involved during and after the play and the actors stayed a little later to answer questions about books or their skit, but received a lot of compliments from many of the kids who enjoyed it.

When they finished and asked if anyone had any questions, a few of the children asked if they could do it all again. Sadly, they had other places they had to go, so they were not able to, but all of them enjoyed it.

Everyone gathered outside to take pictures with these characters. As the performers went inside to clean up and get ready for their next library, Peter Rabbit stayed behind to give some hugs.

"We loved performing at the Kimball Public Library and the turnout was great!" Eric conveyed.

Following the performance, youngsters stayed to decorate their new sunglasses with gems, stars and markers, provided by the library. They gathered in their grades as they decorated, sharing fun poses, laughs and stories.

Kimball children seemed to enjoy the group, the show and their new sunglasses which rocked with their new shirts that they tie-dyed previously.
