It is Teammates Golf time this Saturday at the Four Winds Golf Course and you can still get your 4-person scramble team entered if you call the Four Winds Pro Shop.

Your $60 entry fee per player will get you lunch at the Trap Shoot building at 11:30, then a rules meeting at the Pro Shop at 12:30 and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Golfers will be competing for some fabulous prizes to be awarded to the top four teams, plus flag prizes on all 18 holes. Everyone will get an attractive gift at the time of signup, as well. Your chance to enjoy a day of golf with your own group on one of Nebraska’s finest courses, and a chance to help fund a very worthwhile project with the proceeds going to the Kimball chapter of Teammates, an organization started by Tom Osborne to give attention to young students and their mentors.

A full entry of 10 teams participated in the Andy Shaw Memorial Co-ed Softball Tournament held this past weekend at the Kimball Recreation Area. Kevin Wynne, who, with the assistance of wife Carrie, oversaw the tournament said, “We filled the bracket with our limit of ten teams and had more teams on the waiting list who wanted in.”

Elevated, a team out of Scottsbluff, won first place and were a repeat from last year, when they competed under a different sponsor name. Cockriders, out of Cheyenne, was runner-up, and Mixed Nuts of Scottsbluff, won the Sportsmanship award.

A total of 35 games were played over the Saturday and Sunday 2-day affair and there had to be some adjustments to compensate for rain storms. “We had a lot of volunteer help from several players in helping get the fields ready to play on after the rains,” said Wynne. A dollar figure of around $1300 was raised, which will go to help local residents who are fighting cancer. “It will be given out to help for travel expenses, etc,” said Wynne.

Wynne termed this year’s tournament a success once again and said there is some question if the Andy Shaw Memorial status will continue next year, but said, “One way or another, we will continue to host a tournament.”
