Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Come rain or shine, the Teammates Golf Tournament was determined to go on, and it did, complete with rain and shine. With a 1 p.m. start time, following lunch and registration, the rules were told to the golfers and Greg Robinson said we are getting you off a bit early, hoping we can beat the forecasted rain, but that didn’t happen. The rain came down in sheets with most golfers still about 5 holes from being done. After a 30 to 40 minute rain delay, the word went out to return to your holes remaining and GET ‘ER DONE!
A total of 17 four-person teams competed and the top two teams really lit up the scoreboard with the winning team of Kenny Greenwood, Jeff Greenwood, Jordan Greenwood and Chuck Christiansen shooting the low round of 54, which was 18 under par! You would think they should have won in a run-a-way, but not the case, as a very young team of Dillon wise, Payton Wise, Andrew McCloud and Jacob Walker finished just 1 stroke back of the winners with 55.
There was a tie for 3rd and 4th between the teams of Tom O’Brien, Cole Henton, Don Trofholz and Drew Biesecker, and the team of Tom Southard, Doug Southard, Steven Burback and Terry Lovesee, with both teams shooting 63 or 9 under par. A scorecard playoff gave the O’Brien team 3rd place honors.
Despite some people getting quite wet, it will go down as a memorable experience and it was nice to see all of the out-of-town golfers who also played. Some great prizes were handed out, including, 4 tickets to a Nebraska Football game to open the season with Akron. The 2nd place team selected $200 of credit to the Four Winds Pro Shop. O’Brien’s team took $200 of Chamber of Commerce bucks, and the Southard team got four authentic Masters golf caps and a Masters golf ball each. There were also flag prizes on each of the 18 holes. A good time by all and the bottom line, according to Greg Robinson, was about the $1500 raised to turn over to the local Teammates chapter. This tournament is the Kimball chapter’s largest fund raiser event each year.

Now get ready for a really BIG SHOW at the Four Winds as this is the weekend of the Vince’s Corner Blind Draw four-person scramble, where they draw for A-B-C-D players for the opening day and then redraw for day two. This event brings home many of our former residents, plus other out-of-town golfers who simply like the format and the chance to compete for some top notch prizes. It has proven to be one of the season’s best events and we welcome all of the golfers who come to town to play in this great event on a great golf course. Hit em straight and long!

Another reminder, also, to sign your team up for the July 14th Glow Ball four-person scramble sponsored by the Masons. Nine holes in daylight and nine holes in the dark. Limited spots open, so call the Pro Shop today for more info and to get registered.

Another big happening this past week was the Wrestling camp put together by Bob Culek and his crew. A total of 40 young wrestlers from age 5 through high school took part in the camp and got some awesome instruction from the University of Nebraska at Kearney coaching staff, along with some of their wrestlers. The camp ran from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It was neat to see that about two-thirds of the wrestlers came from out-of-town, including, Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. A salute to Coach Culek and all of his local helpers for putting this event together.
