100 years of Blue Jeans and Family Dreams

Kimball and Banner Counties will be celebrating 100 years of Blue Jeans and Family Dreams during the 2018 Kimball-Banner County Fair, August 6 – 14.

As in years past, the fair will begin with the Fashion Revue and clothing judging at the 4-H building at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6.

Youth will strut their stuff across the stage, showing off their handiwork in sewing, decorating, accessories and even shopping.

Members of area 4-H clubs will also begin a pre-fair clean up at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, at the Kimball-Banner County fair grounds in anticipation of the week to come.

The following day, 4-H and FFA exhibits will be entered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and open class entries will be accepted from 1 – 3 p.m.

The archery competition begins at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Four Winds Golf Course clay pigeon shooting range.

The public is then invited to attend the public fashion revue at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kimball High School student center.

Wednesday, Aug. 8, is horse day at the fair grounds, with horse entries beginning at 7:30 a.m. and a meet and greet with judges at 8. Just half an hour later the contests begin with showmanship, halter horsemanship, pleasure trail, reining, pole bending and barrel racing throughout the day.

Vendors will begin setting up booths at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, as well. They will be in the midway for the remainder of the week.

Small animals, such as rabbits and poultry, make their showing on Thursday, Aug. 9, beginning at 8 a.m., dogs following at 9.

Weigh-in for swine, beef, sheep and meat goats will be Thursday afternoon, from 1 – 3 p.m., with all other livestock to follow through 4 p.m.

Thursday evening ends with a gymkhana beginning at 5:30.

Friday is the first day that the exhibit hall will be open all day, with entries from 4-H and FFA youth, as well as, open class exhibits. Be sure you stop in!

It is also the first day for big fun, with a zip line, laser tag, games and inflatables alongside the vendors in the midway throughout the day.

Friday is a big day, and like any big day, it is important to start it off with a good breakfast. 4-H breakfast will be served from 6:30 – 8 a.m. at the concession stand.

The day begins with market hogs and swine showmanship at 8 a.m. and at 11 the dairy and dairy goat show begins. Sheep showmanship and market sheep will be shown at 1 that afternoon as well.

To close out the big day, a miniature bull and miniature bronc ride – always an exciting event!

Saturday, too, begins with breakfast at the concession stand from 6:30 – 8 a.m. In addition to an open exhibit hall, vendors and games in the midway, rodeo slack begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

FFA market beef and showmanship begins at 8 a.m. and is followed by 4-H beef showmanship, 4-H stocker feeder, 4-H breeding beef, 4-H bucket calf and Clover Kids beef showmanship contests. The the 4-H market beef show scheduled at 1 p.m. and followed by club group of three, round robin showmanship and FFA Old Timers Whow.

The Mare and Foal parade through downtown Kimball will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday and the rodeo begins at 8 that night in the arena with the ever-popular, crowd favorite, Mutton Bustin’!

Winding down the weekend, Sunday brunch, open to the public and served in the 4-H building, begins at 9 and will be served through 1 p.m., at which time the exhibit hall will be open for one final day, but only through 4 p.m.

The second mare and foal parade begins at noon, and the rodeo follows at 2 p.m., again, beginning with Mutton Bustin’.

At 4 p.m. all 4-H and FFA exhibits will be released and the parade of champions begins at 5 with a free barbecue at 5:30.

The weekend comes to an end at 7 p.m. with chore time relays and the 2018 Kimball-Banner County Fair ends on Monday, Aug. 14, with the 4-H and FFA livestock auction beginning at 9 a.m.
