Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball’s Cross Country runners competed at Alliance on Saturday, Sept. 15 with one medal winner, Zachery Wagner, finishing sixth in varsity in just 18:33.
Wagner was followed by teammates Thomas Lenzen in 19:40, Draven Vickery in 22:27, Brady Kilgore in 23:31 and Cole Henton in 23:44.
Standout runner Chantel Malson finished in 22:34 and in 11th place, just one away from medaling as well. She was followed by teammates Anabela Whitehead in 26:30 and Brandi Councilman in 27:50.
Boys Junior Varsity finishers at Alliance were Christopher Barker in 22:24 followed closely by Conner Cluff in 22:42, Jordan Cluff in 26:29 and Stephen Bateman in 29:06.
Junior High runners at Alliance included just one girl, Shannen Marks, who finished in 17:13. The junior high boys finished fifth out of eight teams and were led by Matthew Johnson, 12:42, Joseph Bremer, 12:44, Braylon Miller, 14:21, Xavier Thomas-Lewis, 16:27, Joey Johnson, 17:19, Shane Zopelli, 18:20 and Landon Norberg, 18:25.
At the Ogallala Invite on Thursday, Sept. 20, Barker and Conner Cluff moved up into the varsity team, led by Zachery Wagner, who ran the course in 17:44 and took 15th place out of 95. He was followed by Thomas Lenzen in 18:36, Conner Cluff in 21:01 and Barker in 21:30.
High School Girls Varsity was led again by Malson in 22:25 followed by Whitehead with a time of 24:10 and Councilman in 25:52.
The High school boys JV was led by Kilgore, who completed the course in 20:54 followed by Henton in 21:33, Jordan Cluff in 22:54 and Bateman in 27:33.
Matthew Johnson led the junior high school boys, completing the course in 12:42 and followed by James McGinnis in 13:56, Miller in 14:-6, Thomas -Lewis running in at 15:17, Joey Johnson with a time of 16:12, Norberg at 16:44 and Zoppelli in 18:48.
The junior high girls added a new teammate, Sierra Greenwood, who ran the course with a time of 18:12 behind Marks, who finished in 15:10.
“We were really proud of how all of the runners ran in Ogallala,” coach Tiffany Johnson said. “Every single high school runner had either their personal best or season best time. Zach moved into the 8th spot in our overall records. The boys’ team is constantly changing with different boys running varsity every week.”
