Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Kimball Lady Longhorns on a roll this past week!

The Lady Longhorns went to Bayard on Oct. 2 to face Potter-Dix and Bayard in a triangle. The girls swept the triangular beating Potter-Dix 25-15 and 25-21 in a close match, and 25-19, 16-25, 25-22 in an even closer match with Bayard.

In the game with Potter-Dix, looking at official stats submitted by coach on MaxPreps online, defense was a very critical part of this game with Sydney Biesecker and Kiersten Anderson both having nine digs. Madison Wynne followed with four, Jaydin Paxton with three, Megan Spicer and Kate Reader with one each. Receiving: Beisecker again with nine, Anderson seven, Rutledge with five, Spicer four, Wynne three, and Reader again with one. This all means these girls were under the ball and didn't let much of the attacking from Potter-Dix hit the floor. With the help of digging and receiving Wynne was able to put up 13 total assists. Which include Greenwood leading the Lady Horns with 10 of the 22 kills, and Reader with seven, followed up by Paxton with two, Wynne, Spicer, Greenwood, and Biesecker each with one. The ladies served strong with 10 aces and only five errors out of 49 total serves for a 89.8 service percentage.

The game against Bayard came a little closer to call. Unofficial statistics received show the attacking game was a little shorter with Reader giving seven, Greenwood six, Wynne, Biesecker, and Paxton with two each. Digs were about the same this game with Biesecker having nine, Wynne with seven, Reader had six, Spicer four, Paxton two. Blocking was a higher portion of the game this time with Greenwood denying the Lady Tigers five times, Wynne with two, Reader, Biesecker and Spicer with one each.

The Lady Longhorns had to travel back up north to Morrill on Thursday, Oct. 4, to take on the Lady Lions. Again, unofficial stats are as follows: Kills were flowing with Reader and Greenwood each with 13, Biesecker with eight, and Paxton with three. Wynne escorted the girls with 24 assists in the night and Spicer with three. Again the defense is really stepping through with the girls getting under with Biesecker dominating the Tigers with 20 digs, Anderson with 10, Wynne six, Greenwood six. Seven total blocks were achieved again in the whole game and serving was on point! Biesecker lead serving with 17 for 17 and one ace thrown in there. Greenwood with 10pts, Spicer six, Bailie Bower with five, Wynne five, Reader four, Paxton three. Congrats Lady Longhorns for the win over Morrill 15-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-10

The Lady Longhorns have been working on a new rotation and it seemed to work out well for them this past week. From a crowd stand point, the communication and team effort looked better and like they were working well as a team.

This week the ladies faced the other Lady Longhorns from Chase County at home Tuesday, Oct. 9, no information was available at press time. They will travel next Tuesday to Grant to face Perkins County on Oct. 16.
