Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball runners competed in the district contest on Thursday, Oct. 11 in Bridgeport and qualified three for state – seniors Zachery Wagner, a three-time state qualifier, and Thomas Lenzen as well as freshman Chantel Malson.
Wagner would have qualified all four years of high school but for a broken femur in his junior year, a season ending injury for the runner.
He placed sixth in districts this year with his time of 18:08 and was followed by Lenzen in 11th place with a time of 18:31. Brady Kilgore came in at 20:44, Connor Cluff in 20:57, Cole Henton in 21:19 and Christopher Barker in 21:32.
Malson, the sole female qualifier, ran the course in 21:45 and placed tenth. Anabela Whitehead came in at 24:39 and Brandi Councilman in 26:14.
"We are very proud of how everyone ran. We are especially proud of Zach, Thomas and Chantel and look forward to watching them run at state this Friday, coach Tiffany Johnson said. "The rest of the runners worked hard and competed well in their respective races last Thursday. I was very pleased with the effort that they all put forth."
