County to purchase vacant building to house transit vehicles

Kimball County plans to purchase and renovate one long vacant Kimball building for a much needed Transit vehicle storage space.

At the regular Nov. 5, County Commissioner meeting, Christy Warner, County Transit Administrator addressed the Commissioners asking to set a public hearing for the next regular scheduled meeting. A public hearing was set for the next meeting Nov. 20 at 9:15 a.m. to receive comments for or against renovating an existing building located north east corner of the Hwy 71 and Hwy 30 intersection at the stoplight in Kimball, also known as the old Weather Wise building at 233 S Chestnut St. This building would accommodate transit vehicle storage for which financial assistance is being sought from the Federal Transit Administration.

Before the public hearing, Warner and Commissioner Tim Nolting will hold a education and informational meeting on Nov. 19 at 6:30 pm in the Commissioner’s meeting room at the Courthouse, to help community members understand the possible future plans.

Also at the meeting, Kimball County Highway Superintendent gave the County Commissioners an update at their regular meeting Nov. 5. Hottell explained that Kimball County Certified Bridge Inspector, Randy Bymer, had finished the 22 bridge inspections this year.

“The bridge inspections are due every two years, we will do a set of 22 bridges a year,” said Bymer
