Joan H. Kjos

Joan H. Kjos, 81, of Kimball, died at Kimball Health Services on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Pastor Roger Gillming officiating. Burial will be held in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friends can visit http://www.cantrellfh.com to view Joan's Tribute Wall and leave condolences and stories for the family. Memorials may be given to the Kimball County Manor. The services for Jan have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Joan (Jan) Hilda Kjos was born in Brier Hill, Pennsylvania on April 22, 1937, the daughter of Joseph and Hilda (Lucas) Hitztaler. She attended school in Pennsylvania and graduated from Maple town High School in 1955. She was married to Arvid Kjos on May 6, 1968 in Reno, Nevada. Jan was a homemaker and loved taking care of the home and her family while Arvid worked in insurance. They settled in western Nebraska and owned Kjos Insurance where Jan was secretary for the company. They moved to Kimball in 1996 and Jan worked as a waitress for many restaurants in the area. She loved spending time with her family and always made holidays and birthdays very special for her family. Jan loved any outdoor activity, including hiking in the mountains and going on motorcycle trips with Arvid, she also enjoyed home decorating. She had many fond memories of the hills and trees in Pennsylvania and growing up in a coal mining town. She was a very giving person and would help when and where needed.

Survivors include her husband Arvid Kjos of Kimball, NE; children Bruce (Diane) Krause of Woodland, CA., and Steve Kjos of Scottsbluff, NE., and 7 step children. Grandchildren Aaron Krause and Adam Krause and several grand and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Byron Krause and one sister Mary Etta Clites.
