Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball high Wrestling Team has been staying busy and now have 3 events under their belts.They opened the season at Bayard in dual action and had a pair of wins from the Cluff brothers as Bayard won the match 36-9.Jordan Cluff won by pin at at 126 pounds and Connor Cluff won his match 5-2 at 132 pounds.Ethan Culek-Schaeffer lost by fall at 160, Izaak Rohde lost by fall at 195, and Stephen Bateman lost by fall at 285.Several weight classes were open and Bayard won others by Kimball forfeit.
The Horns took part in the Akron, Colorado tournament and despite their low numbers, finished 9th out of 18 teams.Jordan Cluff at 126 finished 2nd winning his first match by pin and his second match 18-13 before losing by fall in the title match.Stephen Bateman finished 3rd at 285 winning 5 matches all by fall, and losing 2 matches by fall.Izaak Rohde at 195 wound up 4th with 3 wins and 2 losses registering 2 wins by fall and also a 2-1 decision and suffered his 2 losses by fall.
Connor Cluff at 132 failed to place but won 2 matches by fall and lost twice by fall.Toby McManigal at 220 was 1 and 2 on the day with 1 win by fall and 2 losses by fall.
Coach Wade Brashear commenting on the Akron Tournament said “We had a good showing in Akron.All of our wrestlers won matches and recorded falls, giving us 9th place out of 18 teams.We did this with only 5 wrestlers competing.We wrestled aggressive and offensively”.
Kimball was scheduled to host their own tournament this past Saturday but had to cancel when the number of teams signed up dropped from 11 to only 2 who were coming.Kimball High Activities Director then entered Kimball in a Cheyenne East Tournament and coach Brashear took 3 wrestlers to this event.Coach Brashear stated “Low numbers forced us to cancel our local tournament here at Kimball. We were able to get into the Charlie Lake tournament in Cheyenne, WY. However, we were only allowed into the JV side, though the JV side contained 300+ wrestlers as well”.The two Cluff brothers earned second place honors each going 3-1, while Izaak Rohde was able to go 4-0 in the tournament earning him first place.
Brashear says“We will be back in action this Saturday the 15th in Sidney for the annual Sidney/Bridgeport Tournament, and then Tuesday in Imperial, NE for a triangle between, Chase County, Hershey, and us. “The Kimball wrestlers are at Sidney this Saturday with a start time of 9 a.m.
