The Kimball High Lady Longhorns saw their season record even out at 4 wins and 4 losses after losing twice over the past weekend.
The Lady Horns had a tough schedule to say the least this past weekend. On Thursday night they hosted Class B Sidney, ranked 10th in the state rankings, and lost 68-28. On Saturday they made the trip to Imperial to face another top team in the Chase County Lady Longhorns and despite a good effort came up short losing 55-45.
The Kimball ladies were simply outclassed in their contest with the powerful Sidney Lady Raiders, and the game stats show it. The visitors jumped out to an early 17-0 lead before Kate Reader got Kimball on the board with an inside basket. At the end of the opening period of play, Sidney led 27-7. At halftime the score was 41-13, and after 3 quarters of play Sidney led 55-16. The game was played with a running clock most of the second half.
No one in double figure scoring for Kimball with Kate Reader and Sydney Biesecker tied for Kimball scoring honors with 8 each and Biesecker nailed 1 trey. Lacey Klinkhammer had 7 points with 1 trey and shot 3 for 5 from the field and 1 for 1 at the line. Jaydin Paxton hit a trey for her 3 points, Katie Heeg had 2 as Kimball had only 5 girls score. Klinkhammer had a good showing and also nailed a trey. Reader led the rebounding with 10, had 3 blocked shots and 3 assists. Madison Wynne had 3 steals.
In team stats, Kimball shot only 28 percent from the field making 11 of 40 attempts including 3/15 on 3 point fielders and were 3/6 at the line for 50%. They pulled 21 rebounds, had 4 blocks, 7 steals, 6 assists, 26 turnovers, and 15 fouls.
Sidney had 9 players score led by 6-0 junior Mattie Johnson with 16, Meaghan Ross and Karly Sylvester both with 11, Janay Brarer 9, and Katelyn Sylvester 7. The Lady Raiders hit 6 treys, were 8/19 at the line, and had 11 fouls.
The Sidney girls were fresh off a big win over Beatrice, and their only two losses are to C-1 state ranked Mitchell.

Coach Chauncey Pedersen said, “We probably played our best game at Chase County but weren’t able to secure the win.” Kimball held a 13-11 lead after the first quarter, trailed 29-21 at halftime, came back to outscore the host team 16-12 in the third quarter to close to within 4 points but were outscored 14-8 in the final period to lose 55-45.
Pedersen said, “Kate Reader played big for us and they had a hard time stopping her. Lacey Klinkhammer played well for us both nights last week. I was pleased with the way we played against Chase County. We once again had too many turnovers though.”
Reader led Kimball with 16 points and was 6 of 7 at the foul line. She was also high with 8 rebounds to match Sydney Biesecker in this department, and led in assists with 6. Biesecker had 9 points with 1 trey and 2/2 foul shooting. Megan Spicer had 9 points and was 4 of 6 from the field. Lacey Klinkhammer had 5 with 1 trey. Carli Wurdeman had 5 going 3 of 4 at the line and dished 3 assists. Jaydin Paxton got the other basket for her 2 points giving Kimball 6 scorers on the night.
In team stats, Kimball was 16 of 43 from the field for 37 percent, going 2 of 5 on treys for 40 percent, and shot well at the foul line. Making 11 of 14 for 79 percent. They pulled 27 rebounds, had 8 steals, 12 assists, 25 turnovers and 9 fouls. No stats available for Chase County.

Kimball had a busy week this week as they hosted Potter-Dix this Tuesday, will play at Bridgeport tomorrow (Friday) night with JV games starting at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity. And on Saturday, they travel to Gordon-Rushville with JV action beginning at 1 p.m. followed by varsity play.
The SPVA tournament tips off on Jan. 15 for the girls division, with first round games at the seeded home sites. The pairings and seeding were to be announced later this week.
