B. Francelia Johnson

Funeral services for B. Francelia Johnson, age 95, who died January 25, 2019, at The Residency in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, will be held Saturday, February 2, at 10:30 a.m., at Grace Chapel, 300 Valley View Drive, Scottsbluff, with Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Gering, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Grace Chapel and the Banner County Volunteer Fire Department. Bessie Francelia Johnson was born September 2, 1923, on the family farm east of La Grange, Wyoming, to John Ellsworth and Edna Viola (Parks) Craton. She received her early education in La Grange, graduating there from high school as class valedictorian in 1941. She studied elementary education and music at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the University of Wyoming, and then taught the fourth grade and music at Bayard, Nebraska, and Torrington, Wyoming, for three years.

On June 8, 1946, she married Herbert S. Johnson at the Hull Methodist Church in Banner County, Nebraska. They farmed in southern Banner County, where he worked with his parents and later with their son, Richard. A constant companion of Herbert, she also had a love for cooking and music.

Francelia was a member of Grace Chapel, Banner County Historical Society and Gideons Auxiliary. When the boys were young, she taught Sunday School and played for the Children's Choir at the Methodist Church in Kimball, and was also a Cub Scout leader.

In 2011, after spending 66 years on the farm, Herbert and Francelia moved to The Residency in Scottsbluff. Following his death in 2017, she continued living there in the Care Center.

Francelia is survived by her two sons, Roger (Rebecca) Johnson, Harrisonville, Missouri, and his children, Nathan (Ann) Johnson, Beck, Spencer & Kenneth, Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Susan (Daniel) Kennerly, Zeke, Thatcher & Prescott, Orlando, Florida, Brian (Stacey) Johnson, Miles & Ethan, Chicago, Illinois, Adrienne (Robert) Krunich & Novak, Chicago, Illinois, and Caleb (Alexa) Johnson, Washington, D.C. Also surviving is son Richard (Linda) Johnson, Banner County, Nebraska, and their daughters, Cami (Jerrad) Buller, Craton & Rylie, Grant, Nebraska, Kelli (Jarod) Whitehead, Jhett & Trace, Gilbert, Arizona.

Francelia was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lucy (Pat) Bolin, Mildred (Wayne) Warner, Betty (Hank) Spain and infant sister Dorothy, granddaughter Traci Jo and husband Herbert Johnson.
