Mary Ann Brothers, 78, of Dix, died at her home in Dix on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. The family was present at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. to greet friends. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola, Nebraska, with Father Greg Pawloski officiating. Burial was in St. Catherine's Cemetery.

Mary Ann Brothers was born in Indianola, Nebraska, on May 15, 1940, the daughter of Jacob and LaVera (Fritsch) Kisling. During high school, she worked at the Modrell Café in McCook and also the Derby Café in Arapahoe. She graduated in 1958 from the Indianola High School. Mary Ann attended college in Scottsbluff and graduated in 1960.
She taught at the Dix Public Schools from 1960 to 1964. She was married to Jack W. Brothers on June 2, 1963, in Indianola. She was employed by the family business, Panhandle Telephone Company, from 1964 to 1978. In 1978, she went to work for George Risk Industries and retired in 2006 as the Executive Vice President of Marketing.
Mary Ann served two terms as the mayor of Dix, and served on the Forward Kimball Industries Board and the Vista Villa Board. She was also involved with the Kimball Country Club Board, serving a two terms as President. In 1996, she received Kimball Jaycees "Boss of the Year" award.
She enjoyed traveling to her favorite spot in the world, New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where she owned a condominium and home. She enjoyed playing in various golf leagues at Four Winds Golf Course, and she especially enjoyed the traveling senior league and all of the trips she took with the ladies. Mary Ann was also known with a little prodding, to break out her accordion.
Survivors include her sons Shaun Brothers of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and Troy (Jill) Brothers of Yutan, Nebraska; sister LaVera Brooks of McCook, Nebrska; brother-in-law Gene (Betsy) Brothers of Broomfield, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews and best friend Pat Biesecker of Dix. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Harvey, Roy, Clarence and Earl Kisling, sister Dorothy Peters, brothers-in-law Earl Peters and Jim Brooks, sisters-in-law Pat Kisling and Jeri Kisling, nephew Rob McConville and Sean Kisling.
