Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball had four of its five wrestlers earn places at the Mitchell Tournament this past week and finished in sixth place in the field of 12 teams with 50 team points.
Jordan Cluff at 113 pounds had the highest finish, placing runner-up with two wins by fall before losing to state ranked Murillo of Morrill 7-1 in the championship match.
Izaak Rohde at 182 was third with his 1-2 record and had a quick 59 second pin over Chambers of Mitchell.
Toby McManigal at 220 was 2-1 for the day to earn his third place medal.
Stephen Bateman at 285 also finished third for the Horns, going 2-1 with two pins to his credit.
Connor Cluff at 120 had a tough day, losing his 2 matches.
Coach Wade Brashear said, "The Mitchell Invitational gave us four placers, but we started slow in our first rounds and came back to wrestle well in the later rounds. We took losses that we shouldn't have, but battled back.
"Our final, regular season tournament is this Thursday (Jan. 31) in Bridgeport as a combined WTC-SPVA Conference Tournament, and is our last warmup before our District Tournament coming up February 8-9.
