Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
With spring time well on its way in Kimball County, many of us are ready to step out of the office early to enjoy the warm weather. However, for two Kimball County employees ,this warm weather might come as a bit more enjoyable.
County Highway Superintendent Dave Hottell informed the Kimball County Board of Commissioners last week at their regular meeting on April 2 that he is ready to get back to operating a grader.
"I love doing my job, but sometimes the stress is too much. I enjoy being outside working. I feel as if I am making more of a difference," said Hottell.
Hottell's change could possibly wait until the end of this fiscal year, however. The board decided to place the item on the next agenda, for their regular meeting April 16.
Another bird headed out of the office for the warmth is Commissioner Timothy Nolting. Nolting addressed the Board during the April 2 meeting as well, stating he will officially resign on April 16 at the next regular commissioners meeting.
Along with the Board of Commissioners, Nolting has decided to step down from the remainder of the local, state and national committees and boards that he is a part of with the exception of the Plains Historical Society.
"I have been a member of the Bushnell Village Board of Trustees since I moved here, which was 11 years ago. Six years ago, I decided to run for county commissioner. It is time to change my priorities and focus on family," said Nolting.
"I have loved being a part of all the boards and committees. It has been a wonderful experince and (brought) many highlights of my career."
Nolting will be missed by many throughout Kimball County, but is ready to begin another chapter in his life.
"It has been an honor to have served the public," he said.
With plans to spend time with his family this summer, Nolting says it might be a possibility to see his column, "Across the Fence," appear in local newspapers again.
Both Hottell's and Nolting's announcements will be on the upcoming agenda for next Tuesday. Stay tuned to the Observer for additional details.
