Gortney And Thurin Junior Olympic Champions

Two Tri-State Grapplers, Jax Thurin and Jesse Gortney, ventured to Eads, Colorado, for the Eads Junior Olympic Tournament on April 6.

In the 51 pound bracket, Gortney placed first.

Champ. Round 1 -- Gortney won by fall over Xadrian Apodaca (Rocky Ford) (Fall 1:41).

Quarterfinal -- Gortney won by fall over Jaxen Downing (Mayhem) (Fall 2:33).

Semifinal- Gortney won by fall over Mason Sierra (Eads) (Fall 1:00).

1st Place Match- Gortney won by fall over Elliot Trumble (Lamar Youth Wrestling) (Fall 1:21).

Gortney also wrestled in the 56 pound bracket and took home third place. Round 1- Gortney won by fall over Raith Elliott (Crowley County) (Fall 0:46).

Round 2- Gortney won by fall over Audali Martinez (Las Animas) (Fall 1:33).

Round 3- Aiden Axtell (Duran Elite) won by fall over Gortney (Fall 0:55).

Round 4- Braedyn Fernandez (Mayhem) won by fall over Gortney (Fall 0:24).

Thurin wrestled in the 61 pound bracket to also take home first place. 61 pound bracket- Jax Thurin's Place is 1st.
