Kilgore A Double Winner At Mitchell

Kimball's Brady Kilgore is still undefeated in the hurdles after winning both hurdle races at last Saturday's Mitchell Invitational Track and Field Meet. The Longhorn senior had another outstanding day in winning while competing against the larger schools involved. He took the gold in the 110 meter highs with a time of 15.09 for a season best, won the 300 meter hurdles in 42.00, ran 6th in the 400 meter run with a time of 55.45, and was 3rd in the high jump at 6'2", the same heigtot as the 1st place winner. An all around strong day for the talented senior who brought home 4 more medals.

Coach Gene Mohr said "Our kids performed very well and we had several personal bests even though it was hard to medal in this field of big schools and many top athletes". Mohr went on to say that by comparing times and marks from schools in Kimball's district, it would appear the Horns have a very good chance of getting several of their athletes to the state meet this year. "It looks like we are sitting pretty good in a lot of the events, but the relays are going to be really tough. Mitchell ran a very good meet considering the alrge number of schools and athletes which caused them to run many heats---in almost all of the race events. With the 11 a.m. start time, we got done at 8 p.m. that evening" Mohr said.

It was reported that a total of 21 schools were involved with Sidney edging out Gering for the boy's team title scoring 106.33 points to Gering's 105. Kimball finished 6th in the boy's team standings with 32.33 points.

Other medal winners for Kimball were Ethan Ratzlaff in the pole vault taking 6th place at 10'6". Beau Hanks in the triple jump finishing 4th with his seasonal best of 39'7", and Christian Allen-Van Pelt in 6th place at 38'3" for a personal best.

Thomas Lenzen ran just one place out of the money in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs finishing 7th in both with times of 5:07.6 and 11:28.77. Corey Travis was 11th in the shotput with a personal best of 40'8". Thomas Muldoon ran a PR in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.22 as did Sam Cajero with his time of 2:28.37.

Ogallala won the girl's team title with 103 points, with Pine Bluffs a distant runner up with 58 points. Kimball scored only 2 points in the girls standings thanks to freshman Katie Heeg who placed 5th in the triple jump with a personal best effort of 32'4". Heeg also had a PR in the long jump of 14'3" to tie for 12th.

Other marks for Kimball saw Raven Johnson finish just out of a medal in the pole vault with a PR of 8'0". Megan Spicer was 10th in the triple jump at 31'3" and Jenna Greenwood was 14th at 30' 10". Chantel Malson, Raven Johnson, and Tianna , L Stierwalt all had PRs in the 100 meter dash, as did Kate Reader i in the 400 and Riley Hinton in the 800. Malson, another member of Kimball's talented freshman class, ran 7th in the 3200 meters with a PR time of 13:44.37, and coach Mohr said he is going to give Malson a shot at running the 1600 in a meet soon.

Carli Wurdeman had a season best throw in the discus of 93'7" to finish in 9th place.

Coach Mohr was missing some of his track athletes who were gone to state FFA, including Zach Wagner who would have most likely scored more points for the boys. Zach will be back this week for the Western Trails Track at Bayard, weather permitting.
