Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Mary Lynch fifth grade students made the rounds of the Kimball County Courthouse early this week with a different outlook on the experience.
Students were gathered for an afternoon of detailed job duties from law enforcement officials, and also those with jobs that are based in the court room. Fifth graders had the opportunity to visit the Kimball County Sheriffs office first meeting with dispatch personnel as well as take a look at what that job entails.
After that the students were sent to the district court room and were introduced to Hon. Judge Randin R. Roland, of the County Court, Stacy Bach County Public Defender and Dave Wilson County Attorney. After the introductions, a mock trial was organized for the students to see and even for some to participate in.
Clerk Magistrate Michelle Woods drew 12 student names that were selected out of the jury pool for the trial. The mock trial consisted of Judge Roland who played himself as well as Wilson, the prosecuting attorney, Bach as the defense attorney, Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Brian Woods as himself, the arresting officer, Taylor Schmid of the probation office as the accused thief and Deb Diemoz as the victim.
After the trial students were introduced to Kimball Police Chief Andy Bremer and were then able to ask questions of both him and Trooper Woods.
